Keuka College students met with law enforcement, military, emergency response, and criminal justice professionals during the College’s March 28 Salute to Service, a daylong event that capped the inaugural Career Week.
Hosted by the Center for Experiential Learning and Career Engagement in collaboration with Criminal Justice Instructor Mike Smith, Salute to Service provided career, networking, and experiential learning opportunities for students interested in law enforcement, first response, and military service.

“This event provided job, networking, and experiential learning opportunities for Criminal Justice majors and other Keuka College students who are pursuing or considering careers in law enforcement or as first responders. It also facilitated opportunities for students interested in volunteering as first responders in their communities.”
Live Demonstrations and Experiential Learning
A key highlight of the event was live demonstrations showcasing the skills and expertise of first responders and law enforcement personnel. These demonstrations included:
- K-9 unit demonstrations
- Forensic investigation techniques
- Drone operations for law enforcement
- Accident reconstruction
- Crime scene investigation
- EMS and fire safety/rescue exercises
Law enforcement personnel were in on-duty gear and armed in accordance with standard safety protocols, but no live ammunition was discharged.
Military and Career Opportunities
Students interested in military service had the chance to engage with representatives from various military branches, who provided guidance on how the GI Bill could help finance their education. They also discussed potential paths for Reservists and active-duty service members post-graduation.
