If you are looking to release the creative juices flowing in your veins, the Art & Design program is exactly what you need. From digital and visual communication to hands-on expression through any medium you can think of, this degree will help you get to the dream job you’ve always wanted.

Even if your dream is to be an Art Therapist.

What Does an Art Therapist Do?

Art therapy is a unique profession combining the passion for art with the desire to help others.

You design sessions to meet specific needs using art as a tool to cognitively, physically, or emotionally assist your client. Those sessions help to create reports, case summaries, and unique treatment plans where you use art as a supportive mechanism. If you’re someone who has an enthusiasm for all of those things – this may be the path for you.

What you need from Keuka College to be prepared for a graduate studies program in art therapy:

That’s it! By making Art & Design your major and focusing on psychology as a minor, you’ll be ready for a master’s degree in Art Therapy from some of the top programs in the region.

How much does an Art Therapist make?

Of course, you probably want to know what the wages are for an art therapist before jumping in.

With a Keuka College bachelor’s degree in Art & Design, a minor in Psychology, and a master’s degree in Art Therapy, a therapist working in New York State can make about $77,000 a year. To break it down a little bit more, art therapists being paid hourly in New York State could make about $37.00 an hour.

Not too shabby, right?

Of course, these numbers are all dependent on where you get the position and the state you are working in. However, as you work in the field and gain more experience, those numbers will begin to climb.

And don't forget: You can use one of your Field Period® experiences to do an internship with an art therapist to see if it's the right career for you.
